Ah, springtime in the city. The trees are in bloom and the streets are full of reckless, inexperienced bike riders who are telling themselves that this year, they're really going to make an effort to ride their bikes more...
Get this helmet OFF me, mom. It's SO dorky.

better to look like a dork, then to have a busted head. my boys hate them to-jamie
But it would be dorkier if it had Hello Kitty all over it right? Can't wait to get on my bike, its broken :(
Are those baby bike seats still legal?
Definitely. The ones that aren't legal (except on bike paths) are the ones that are like little trailers with wheels that your bike pulls behind it. Because they're so low to the ground, cars couldn't even see them...
We have a different one that goes on my bike, too, it sits over the front handlebars. It makes it easier to balance, but it doesn't fit on Matt's bike, so we borrowed this one from our neighbors, whose kids are older now.
But I think every city has different bike laws. In NYC, these are legal as long as your kid is over 1 year old and has a helmet on.
I rode in one of those until I was too big (about 3 or 4). I still remember being on the back of my mom's bike riding around Staten Island.
those are the cutest helmet wearing bikers I've ever seen...
I wonder if one would fit on a folding bike. Wearing 24 pounds in a backpack just isn't working for us on these StElmo hills.
matt looks so at home on that bike
Ah -- these pictures make me think back fondly on my junior-high days, when I listened to the probably-now-defunct hardcore band "Helmet".
